Safe-Vue®
white smoke simulates real fire smoke in appearance and odor but does not
leave the residue or lingering odor of real smoke. Safe-Vue smoke
is actually a light grey in color. It issues from the side of the candle
and is composed mainly of zinc chloride mist, atmospheric moisture and
traces of carbon and other products of combustion. Total Obscuring Power
(TOP) rating is 2100. The candles contain no explosives such as chlorates,
perchlorates, nitrates or sulfates. See safety information page. Safe-Vue
white smoke candles are shippable and mailable within the U.S.
Applications
Industrial Hygiene; Health and Safety: Use Safe-Vue candles to
check the discharge from exhaust systems, dryers, hoods and stacks. The
effluent distribution pattern of this persistent smoke can be observed over
long distances. Using Safe-Vue smoke as a tracer, dangerous
bacteria-laden exhaust air from a large hospital building has been
observed to recirculate to one of its fresh air intakes at the far end of
the building.
HVAC:
Use Safe-Vue smoke to balance air flow patterns in heating,
ventilating and air conditioning systems. After removing filters, simply
ignite the correct size candle in the intake or other convenient system
opening and observe the discharge from registers and grills. With adequate
ventilation, Safe-Vue smoke can be used in furnished rooms.
Leak Detection: Test boilers, tanks, compartments, truck bodies,
refrigeration cars, and other enclosure for leaks. Use a volume of Safe-Vue
smoke fifteen to twenty times larger than the volume of the area to be
tested. For example, to test and area of 7,000 cubic feet, 70,000 to
100,000 cu. ft. of smoke will be required. Use two #10-180 three minute
smoke candles - each generating approximately 40,000 cu. ft.. Note that
the #10-182 candle is supplied with a fuse on each end. They can be tied
together to provide a continuous supply of smoke.
Numerous other Safe-Vue uses include wind tunnel studies, fire
and emergency training, spill simulations, and smoking out animals.
Safe-Vue candles must be stored in a cool dry place or they will
not light. Nominal maximum shelf life is one year but can be longer with
proper storage.
